I chose to make Violet Durn's Twitter profile because digital media is an overwhelming part of the world of Feed and Violet's character could be showcased effectively through her account.
Her profile picture is based on Titus' first description of her as having blonde hair and wearing a grey wool dress.
Her nickname, Missus Smith, and her location in Fort Wayne, IN are derived from the list of things she wants to do before she dies that she sends to Titus.
Her bio is a simple quote that I felt resembled the vague and pensive bios of many teenage girls on Twitter. I like this quote, however, as a representation of Violet because it encapsulates her struggles with memory loss and her criticism of her peers failing to know or care about history.
She follows mostly news accounts because Violet cares deeply about staying informed about current events. I added accounts like UNESCO and National Geographic because Violet expresses a want to travel and looking at these accounts could potentially satisfy her wanderlust. I had her follow Senator Bernie Sanders because this quote, "She was like, Nothing’s ever going to happen in a two-party system. She was like, da da da, nothing’s ever going to change, both parties are in the pocket of big business, da da da, all that?" (111), sounded to me like something a vehement millennial Bernie supporter might say.
I love this! I thought it was appropriate you had her follow Bernie because his political views would seem to be closely aligned to Violet's way of free thinking. She would have been a champion for change and the AP, Library of Congress, and the New York Times World were also great picks. I liked that you chose not just the New York Times, but the World feed. Violet seemed like she would be an advocate not just locally but abroad as well.
ReplyDeleteHi Colleen,
ReplyDeleteI love the Twitter name, Missus Smith, and her location in Fort Wayne. I also thought her comments about the two-party system were pretty prescient for a novel written in 2001. Bernie's views on the global economy would likely align with Violet's. The only issue is that I cannot find this handle on Twitter and you did not include screenshots of her tweets.
