An Instagram for Rudy (The Book Thief)

For this post, I created Rudy Steiner's Instagram account.

I chose his profile picture to be of him smiling and holding a soccer ball because for the most part, Rudy is a cheerful neighborhood kid who is undoubtedly obsessed with sports. This is also why I chose to put a Jesse Owens quote in his bio, which serves the purpose of demonstrating just how much Rudy admires Jesse Owens but also showcasing Rudy's capacity to dream big and work hard to achieve.
The first post is indicative of Rudy's life before Liesel, which was mostly concerned with winning sports competitions. I chose to write the caption with an arrogant sort of tone because Rudy's belief in himself and his abilities are strong and voiced several times in the text.
The second is a celebration of his friendship with Liesel. She inspires him to do things that he wouldn't do on his own and because he loves her so much, it would make sense that he would post such a sweet thing on his Instagram.
The third post takes a slightly somber tone by commenting on Rudy's father, Alex, being taken away and sent to work in an army hospital in Vienna. Rudy is openly upset by this, even to go so far as to threaten to kill the Führer and would most likely post something emotional online to remedy his inner turmoil.

  1. This is a great post. I love how you incorporated the Jesse Owens quote on the first picture and I thought the old picture of children playing soccer in the street was perfect. It's amazing how carefree kids could be playing in the street before cars became popular. I also think the emotional posts that you did about Leisel and Alex were fitting. Rudy, although a bit of a trouble maker, could be quite sentimental.

  2. Hi Colleen,

I love the Jesse Owens quote in the instagram bio. It pretty perfectly encapsulate's Rudy's spirit. Who did you tag in the Liesel post? Is that another fake Liesel account? Either way, the Liesel loves books handle is a nice touch. I like the sentimental post for his dad, but the wannabe rebel in me would like to see something about his growing periods of rebellion in the Hitler Youth or with the robber gang.
