A Twitter for Isaac (How I Became a Ghost)

I decided to create Isaacs twitter, and I picked the name GhostIsaac10 because becoming a ghost is on Isaac's mind for most of the novel. Also, he is 10 years old in the novel so I thought the number 10 would be fitting for his username. The Choctaw symbol is Isaac's profile picture to represent the pride he has in being a Choctaw, and the cover photo is supposed to represent Jumper who Isaac says is his "best friend." I kept the biography very short and included that Isaac loves his family and Jumper, because he is very vocal about caring for both in the novel. I tweeted the timeline of the novel, so I began with Isaac creating a twitter and mentioning treaty talk, and ended with his thoughts after Isaac and Joseph were able to save Naomi from the soldiers. The tweets mostly express Isaac's inner thoughts about the events that occur in the novel, such as Nita dying and being cold without a blanket when his family is at the swamp. I also followed a few twitter accounts that I think Isaac might follow if he had a twitter, such as a twitter dedicated to the Choctaw Indians. I also followed people with the same names as people in Isaac's life and a dog account because of Isaac's love for Jumper. I decided to follow The Weather Channel twitter account because the weather conditions play a major role in the overall events in the novel, as well as an account dedicated to ghosts and paranormal activity.

  1. Hey Kylie,
I really enjoyed how you incorporated Isaac's distinct voice and sense of humor into his tweets. I think the "fun fact: ghosts can still use twitter!" tweet was my favorite because I could absolutely envision him saying that. He was very matter-of-fact in regards to his becoming a ghost in the novel, and I think that tweet captures that facet of his personality very well. I also enjoyed how you captured his progression from a naive, carefree child into a more aware adolescent throughout the novel in your tweets. I think this twitter is spot on!

  2. I definitely enjoyed how when reading the posts you created for Isaac, you could tell it was him. I think who you chose for him to follow really matches what occurs in the story as well. Overall, you did a great job. It really seemed as though Isaac was posting and making comments about what happened during his life.

  3. I think you did a great job portraying Isaac's character through "his" twitter profile! The tweets are a good mix of humorous and serious, fitting with Isaac's voice in the novel. Also, I think you chose some important pages for him to follow and you explained your reasoning well.

  4. Hi Kylie,

This is officially my favorite Twitter account created so far in this class. I think your tweets capture Isaac's voice perfectly. My favorite tweet is probably the one that says Jumper says I shouldn't get a Twitter but I'm doing it anyways, because it captures how Isaac's relates Jumper's speech without any air of wonder or surprise, something that Debbie Reese marks as being an authentic representation of American Indian identity. I also appreciate the accounts you followed to make the Twitter more comprehensively Isacc's. Nice job!
