Lumberjanes- Category B Prompt A

I decided to create an Instagram account for the character Jo in Lumberjanes. Jo stuck out to me as one of the leaders of the group who is very intelligent and dedicated to being a Lumberjane. Because of her proclaimed love for being a Lumberjane, I decided to make her username lumberjane_jo. Below are some of the photos I uploaded on her Instagram. Jo seemed to be the one with all the answers in the underground cave scene, so I included a photo of the Fibonacci sequence that she uses to get her friends across the columns. In the caption, I wrote that she is trying to get all of her badges this summer at camp because she seemed to have the most badges out of all of her friends, which shows she is both hard-working and purposeful, and further highlights her interest in being a Lumberjane. This connects to the Lumberjanes pledge picture as well, as Jo makes a point of knowing the pledge by heart. I also included a photo of her with the rest of the girls in the book, because she was the one who seemed to be the most logical and protective of her friends while they repeatedly got into trouble. Each of the girls in the comic seemed to have their own personality traits and style that made them unique, so I posted a quote about learning because this is what I saw as one of Jo's key traits.

  1. I think the Herbert quote was a good post for this Instagram. The amount of thought you put into this account really shows-- good job!

  2. I never noticed that Jo has the most badges in comparison to the other Lumberjanes that we are introduced to. It is interesting because she seems to be the most level-headed and responsible out of all of them. Overall, I think this Instagram account is a great representation of Jo!

  3. Hi Kylie,

Jo is the character that stuck out to me in my first reading too. I think it could be because she is the bookish brainy type that we are familiar with in adolescent literature. In fact, I would probably argue that she is supposed to recall Jo March from Little Women. I appreciate your captions on all of the photos. Your instagram feed accurately captures the spirit of a girl who values her friendship but also has a little bit of a competitive edge in her learning quest. One additional thing you can do when creating these faux social media accounts is follow some other accounts you think Jo would be likely to follow based on her interests.
