I decided to make an Instagram account
for Prince Po in Graceling because I
found him the most interesting and his fate of becoming blind the most
emotional part of the novel. Playing on his Grace of perception, I coined the
handle Prince_PoCeptive. Using the modern aspect of social media, I attempted
to incorporate the aspects of Po’s Instagram with captions that he might use if
he were using Instagram today. For example, the first post I have a picture of
Katsa with the hashtag wce (stands for woman crush everyday) and the ring emoji
which symbolizes the ring he gives her in the novel. I also added that he can’t
survive without her which is a play on her Grace that he helped her discover.
The second post is captioned with a paraphrased quote from the novel (pg 306)
and the inclusion of his horse riding since it becomes the cause for his
blindness. Finally, I included a quote about having a third eye since
perception is his Grace and a play on eyes since they are one of his most
prominent features and he ends the novel not being able to see. The caption also calls upon the isolation he feels once he goes blind.
