Category B Prompt B: Zoe Zimmer's Twitter

I chose to make a Twitter account for Zoe Zimmer. Kamala thinks that Zoe is nice, but Nakia and Bruno disagree. Nakia says that Zoe is, "only nice to be mean." Zoe surrounds her insults to Nakia, Kamala, and Bruno in niceness. When Zoe walks into the store where Bruno works, she immediately announces her presence and tells Bruno that she wants the usual. Bruno points out that the coffee at the store is self-serve to which Zoe responds, "God. I only buy stuff here to tip you, because I am concerned about your economic situation. You should be nice." Zoe immediately asserts her privilege and seems to think that the world revolves around her. She is also wearing a shirt that with "Bonita Bonita Bonita" printed on it, possibly appropriating Latino culture and pointing out to everyone that she is pretty.  Zoe is condescending to minorities and people of lower socioeconomic status then her and seems to view her interactions with them as a form of charity. I chose to follow accounts and design a Twitter for Zoe that represented this. Zoe's Twitter banner alludes to Kamala saving her in Issue 2. I chose Zoe's Twitter handle to be zoeluvscoffee because the first time we are introduced to Zoe she is ordering coffee. Zoe is portrayed as stereotypical privileged white girl so I chose to play off of that; however, I know that she does grow as a character and begin to move past that. For Zoe's bio, I chose a quote I found from an account I followed called, Common White Girl. I chose to follow all of the most popular American Twitter accounts. I also chose to follow some humanitarian work accounts. Zoe seems to want to help people but is misguided in how she chooses to do it.

  1. I think its great that you designed a twitter for Zoe! I wouldn't have thought to make one for her. I designed one for Kamala and had her follow your page. You hit the nail on the head with Zoe's profile, background, and bio. I would definitely imagine her having a "basic white girl" twitter. Also, the fact that she is following the most popular accounts makes sense. Popularity and fitting in both seem to be big parts of her life. Good job!

  2. You did a great job pointing out Zoe's privilege! Reading her character's actions toward Kamala was horrid.

  3. Hi Monica,

Nice attention to detail with the "bonita, bonita, bonita" shirt. This Twitter profile made me laugh as it does pretty perfectly capture the stereotype of the "basic white girl." It certainly reflects the Zoe we meet in the first issue of Ms. Marvel, though, as you note, she does evolve in subsequent issues. I'd like to see a few more tweets from the account, but I love the curated image it evokes so far.
