An Instagram for Angie (Seventeenth Summer)

Angie is 17 years old enjoying her last days of summer.  Angie was never the popular girl throughout her high school education and never imagined that a boy like Jack would pay her any attention.  However, once Angie and Jack meet, her summer is not like anything else before.  Angie spends her last nights before college with Jack. This summer goes by in the blink of an eye and Angie and Jack are faced    with the painful realization that it will end and they will part ways.   Follow Angie on Instagram @angie_morrow12 or https://www.instagram.com/angie_morrow12/.

Image 1:  I decided to choose this image to represent Angie because I felt like the description suited Angie Morrow’s character.  The quote on this image is “In every girls’ life; there’s a boy she’ll never forget and a summer where it all began”. All in all, this quote sums up Angie’s entire summer experience.  Jack comes into her life, he is her first boyfriend and her first kiss, and she will never be the same.  This will most likely shape up Angie’s first year at college and follow her along the rest of her life because a girl never forgets her first love.

Image 2:  I decided to upload a picture of a sailboat on the lake for Angie’s profile because this was her first date with Jack.  Jack and Angie’s relationship first began on this boat one summer night and when Angie is thinking about Jack she wants to go walk by the lake.  In fact, early on in their relationship Angie and Kitty go for a walk in the park so Angie can walk by the lake and look at Jack and Swede’s sailboat.  Therefore I think the sailboat is an appropriate image for Angie’s Instagram account.

Image 3:  The last image I decided to use was a picture of tomatoes.  While this is a strange image to add to Angie’s Instagram account, I felt like it was appropriate since Angie and Jack spent their last night picking tomatoes in her mother’s garden.  While Jack and Angie’s first date was sailing in the lake, the couple had their first conversation while Angie was working in the garden in the early summer days.  I think that this is something that Angie would definitely reflect upon before she left for college.

Profile Picture:  I decided to do a basic photo of a couple sitting near the lake.  Once again, I felt like the lake played a large role in Angie and Jack’s relationship.  I think a profile picture of the couple sitting near the lake would be fitting for Angie’s character since everyone knew that she was Jack’s girl.

Quote:  There is never a time or place for true love. It happens accidentally, in a heartbeat, in a single flashing, throbbing moment”.   I used this quote by Sarah Dessen on Angie’s profile because I also feel like it sums up Angie’s summer.  Angie did not go into the summer before going away to college expecting to find love.  Angie never thought a boy in her hometown would even think about dating her.  Jack and Angie’s relationship had come up at an inappropriate time to some extent since both of them were leaving

  1. I really enjoyed your blog post. I like how there is a classic, refined look to the images used. This seems to be how Angie's demeanor was portrayed. The quote used could be on the jacket of the book, it fits the book perfectly. Nice job!

  2. Hey Carleigh,

I really like your post. I think the images that you chose capture what you are trying to portray. I like that you chose the images in a way that makes it seem like she is reflecting on the relationship instead of just showing the events of the book. I also think that the quote you chose for her Instagram's description is perfect.

  3. Hi Carleigh,

I think this instagram account gives us a good glimpse into Angie's character in the novel. I particularly like the garden post because almost all of her non-Jack time is spent in that garden reveling in the growing plants and flowers. The Sarah Dessen quote is a nice touch as well.
